Two storms. Hundreds of keiki. No dedicated courts left standing for them.
The Kona Storms damaged gym spaces across the island. A second major storm compounded the damage. Hundreds of children. Multiple displaced clubs. No youth-dedicated courts. These are real kids from Big Island families — and the solution is within reach with your help.
What Happened
Storm 1 — Kona Storms
The Kona Storms swept through West Hawaiʻi, flooding and damaging the indoor gym spaces that four youth volleyball clubs depended on. Practice was cancelled. Seasons were lost. Families had nowhere to turn.
Storm 2 — A Second Major Storm
Before families could recover, a second major storm struck. Remaining training options were severely impacted. The message was clear: our keiki cannot depend on facilities that storms can take away. They need something permanent, outdoor, and built for them.
The Result — Right Now
These children are not statistics — they are your neighborsʻ kids, your communityʻs future. A permanent sand court is storm-resilient, year-round, and built to last. Every day we wait is another day they go without.
For Big Island Keiki
A dedicated sand court on the Kona side would give our keiki something no existing facility provides — a permanent, youth-focused home built for their development.
Hawaiʻiʻs climate makes outdoor sand training possible every month of the year — no gym closures, no weather cancellations.
Sand builds the footwork, core strength, and ball control that directly translate to stronger indoor volleyball performance.
Right now, competitive sand training means expensive inter-island travel. A Kona court keeps opportunity local and accessible.
Beach volleyball is a growing NCAA sport. A dedicated development court opens doors to scholarships and athletic futures.
Sand volleyball is a full-body workout that promotes cardiovascular health, coordination, and mental well-being in a safe outdoor setting.
The Hard Truth
Volleyball is woven into the culture and community of every island. On the Big Island, youth clubs have long been a cornerstone of Konaʻs identity. Then the Kona Storms hit — and before families could recover, a second major storm delivered another blow. Multiple clubs. Hundreds of children. Facilities damaged, closed, or condemned. There are very few sand courts on the island today, and none are accessible, appropriate, or safe for youth athletes. Two disasters have made the need undeniable. The time to act is now.
"A sand court doesn't just create volleyball players — it develops healthier, stronger, more confident keiki while opening doors to future educational and athletic opportunities."
Keiki First Foundation Mission
Big Island families are depending on this community to show up for their kids. Every dollar raised goes directly to programs — no overhead, no waste. Just keiki on the sand, learning to compete, connect, and lead.
